2019 Year in Review

Happy New Year!


The close of our 7th year, more than 650 blog posts, dozens of projects. We continue our quest to save as many guns possible from the scourge of iron oxide.



January

• We started the year off with story of the New Haven 250C rifle
• Then followed that up with part one of the Remington 870 Wingmaster Project
• We followed that a few days later with Part Two
• On the 9th we looked into the history of the Baker Gun and Forging Company
• Then Part 3 of the Wingmaster project
• Our 7th installment of Theme Guns came on the 15th
• Part 4 of the 870 Wingmaster project
•  Interesting Firearm Photos #26 hit these pages on ML King Day
• The final build post of the 870 Wingmaster Project
• Thanks to the folks at Widener's were given the chance to test some 9mm ammo

February

• Our Firearm Factory of the Month was the Sharp's Rifle Company
• Then we examined the options for the fire, safe and full auto position indicators on your 80% AR-15 build
• Because February is a short month and I had a few small projects that were not detailed enough for individual posts, I posted a collective of small projects
• We celebrated "Buy your Girl a Gun Day" (Feb 14th) by looking at different handgun options
• Our Featured Gun this month was the Hi-Standard Pistol
•  Interesting Firearm Photos #27 was posted on the 22nd
• Another Ammo Review, this one on a couple of big bore cartridges

March

• We celebrate the 10/22 for the 4th year in a row, begging with more 10/22 facts.
• We review the Atomic/Pike Arms 10/22 aluminum trigger housing.
• I test out another 10/22 Cheap Trick on my 10/22 Spencer Rifle Tribute Project
•  We examine more upgrades for your 10/22
• We take a look at my past and future 10/22 Projects.
•  There are a lot of options for starting your build with a stripped 10/22 receiver, we look at them here.
•  We kickoff the Sporter Finger Groove Project.
•  On the 19th we looked at the options for aftermarket bolts.
•  Part Two of the Sporter Finger Groove Project
•  The theme this month was aftermarket parts, this post deals with the options for trigger housings/assemblies.
•  Our final installment of the Sporter Finger Groove Project.
•  We take a look at more options for building or modifying a 10/22 stock.
•  We finish the month with some good ol' fashioned 10/22 Gun Porn.

April

• Another Ammo Review, this one in .22 LR
• Part Two of the 325A Post Apocalypse Project
• On the 11th we posted the 28th Interesting Firearm Photos post
• Tax Day aka National Buy a Gun Day!
• Part Three of the 325 Post Apocalypse build
• In our April edition of Firearm Factory of the Month we look at the history of Canadian gun maker H.W. Cooey.

May

•  May kicks off with another new project, this one a New Haven 250C.
• Another Ammo Review, this time we test three types of .45 ACP ammo

• On the 12th we posted the third post on the New Haven 250C Project
• The Featured Gun for May is the venerable Ruger Mini-14

• Some unique Gun Porn, we show off the work of Patriot Gun Polishing in Florida

June

• We kicked off June with part one of another S&W model 19 refinishing project
•  Our Firearm Factory of the Month told the story of New England Westinghouse
•  Part Two of the S&W model 19 project was posted on the 9th
• The Featured Gun this month is the Ruger P-85 pistol
• Interesting Firearm Photos number 30
• One of our local forum members authored a guest post on the unwrapping of a NOS M1D Sniper Rifle. 
• I made another test of chemicals that might remove bluing. 
• Our final post for June was some old fashioned gun porn. 

July

•  We opened the month of July with a Featured Gun post on the Stevens model 73
•  We celebrated Independence Day with some Patriotic Themed Guns. 
•  Then we moved onto part one of the Stevens model 73 Project. 
• Our Firearm Factory of the Month told the story of Harrington & Richardson. 
•  On the 15th I posted part two of the Stevens model 73 Project
•  We hit the 31 mark on our series of Interesting Firearm Photos
• The third and final post on the Stevens model 73 project. 
•  We close out another month with another round of Gun Porn. 

August

•  August opens with a Featured Gun post on the S&W model 2214
•  A simple refinish and trigger install on a Remington 700
•  On the 9th we posted Interesting Firearm Photos # 32
•  We finish up the Remington 700 project. 
•  Our Firearm Factory of the Month focuses on The Hamilton Rifle Company. 
•  Instead of Themed Guns, we look at Themed Magazines. 
•  On the 25th I posted some small projects, too small for their own posts.
•  We finish up August with a look at Guns that have been lost to History. 

September

•  Labor Day 2019 we start another project, this one a Hi-Standard H-D Military. 
•  Our Firearm Factory of the Month details the story of Samuel Colt's first gun manufactory.
•  Part Two of the H-D Military Project. 
•  Our 9th installment of Theme Guns hits the blog on Friday the 13th....
•  Part Three of the H-D Military project
•  The AR-7 Explorer II pistol is the focus of September's Featured Gun post.
•  We close out the 9th month with another episode of Interesting Firearm Photos. 

October

•  October opens with another project, this one a Dan Wesson model 15 revolver
•  Our Firearm Factory of the Month actually includes the story of two factories: L.C Smith & Hunter Arms.
•  On the 9th we posted part two of the Dan Wesson model 15 project.
•  Midway through the month we post another Interesting Firearm Photos post
•  On the 17th we published the final post on the Dan Wesson model 15 project. 
• On the 22nd we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the first Rugers to be shipped out by telling the story of the Ruger Standard pistol. 
• With Halloween around the corner we publish our 5th Zombie Gun post. 
• and of course we had to cover more Halloween related gun stuff

November

•  November 1st we introduce another project, a Mossberg model 380 with a serious case of cancer by including it as our Featured Gun.
•  We again nominate the imbeciles of the world for the Golden Poop Awards. 
• We get the Mossberg model 380 project underway.
•  Our Firearm Factory of the Month is Noble Manufacturing
•  On the 18th we publish Part Two of the Mossberg 380 Project.
•  November Gun Porn arrived at the blog on the 22nd. 
•  We put a bow on the Mossberg model 380 project. 
•  Our Interesting Firearm Photos hit the 35 mark

December 

•  Somewhat of a tradition at the blog: Gift Ideas for the Gun Nut.
•  For the second December in a row we refinish a Remington model 512, part one was posted on Pearl Harbor Day.
•  Our Featured Gun for December is the infamous Charter Arms 38 Undercover. 
•  Our Firearm Factory this month is Hopkins and Allen. 
•  Just in time for Christmas we wrap up the Remington 512 rifle project. 
•  The last Interesting Firearm Photos post of 2019 is #36
•  You are here...…New Years Eve

Mauser 98 Sporter: An inherited project, Mauser 98 action, re-barreled in 270 Winchester, a Richard's Micro-fit  stock and a box of parts

Ruger Standard Pistol: a 1966 vintage Ruger Standard will get restored

Winchester model 97: My FIL inherited this 1926 vintage shotgun from his Brother, it was rusty and pitted, I give it a complete overhaul

Remington 512 Sportmaster: Yes another one, this will be #3

Remington 511 Scoremaster: Another inherited gun that sat unloved for too long

Remington 513 Matchmaster: Yet another inherited gun, this one from my uncle. It has been stripped and is in pieces....just my kind of fun

Stevens model 73: Another model 73, this one belongs to my adopted grandfather. It needs rebluing and some extraction issues fixed

S&W model 27: A beautiful revolver with some graffiti gets refinished

S&W model 19: Yet another model 19, my 4th one

Winchester model 77: A $50 "wallhanger" gets the full treatment

J.C. Higgins model 36: A $10 LGS buy gets some redemption

Springfield model 83: I hope to move this one from the project list to the finished list

Marlin model 60 "Super Deluxe Edition": I build what Marlin could have (or should have) built.

Savage 325A: The Post Apocalyptic gun, gets a second make-over

Hi-Standard Model B: A 1935 vintage gets refinished

Ruger Standard: a 4" barrel 1953 vintage "Red Barn" pistol gets cleaned up 

Hawes Western Six Shooter: A .22 Mag single action in need of love

Winchester model 47: Purchased as just a barreled action with a cracked stock, I will rebuild this single shot rifle

Ruger 10/22 Projects:

•  Finger Groove Sporter Tribute: I take a painted and modified walnut stock and turn it into something beautiful
• The Continental: An International stock, high polished steel receiver and barrel and a new aluminum trigger assembly make for one beautiful rifle
•  The Deluxe Sporter: I purchased a checkered Deluxe Sporter Stock, now I need to out fit it
•  The Zombie: I finally get to do some Lichtenburg wood burning and stock carving
•  The Hawken: fitting brass muzzle loader parts to a factory 10/22 stock
•  The Pirate Charger: I attempt to make a pirate pistol from an old beech wood factory stock
•  The Liquid Lava: I customize a factory wood stock and give it a unique paint job.
• The Sniper: A threaded bull barrel, parkerized steel receiver, 50mm scope and a Hogue thumbhole stock make for a unique project
• The SR-22 Project: A chance gun show find results in a Ruger SR-22 being added to my collection
