Featured Gun: The Ruger SR-22R Rifle

In a previous post we went over the story of the 10/22 rifle, see that post here. Today we focus on one particular model, the SR-22.

The Ruger SR-22 R was a 10/22 rifle that came from the factory with an aluminum modular chassis that allowed the owner to utilize components from the AR-15 platform.

Introduced in September of 2009, Ruger called it the "coolest .22LR EVER"

Really the only odd thing about the timing of this rifle's introduction, is that it came more than a year before the introduction of the BX-25 high capacity magazine......

The chassis was manufactured by Nordic Components

Nordic calls their chassis kit the "AR22"

Ruger then included a Ruger monogramed six-position adjustable A2 style butt stock.

Hogue supplied a Ruger monogrammed pistol grip, made from their famous over-molded grippy rubber

The sights appear to have been Magpul's MBUS folding sights, monogrammed with the Ruger logo of course

The barrel was cold hammer forged with the typical 1:16 RH twist. It came minus the dovetailed sights and with a threaded muzzle to which a Mini-14 flash hider was attached.

The rest of the rifle was standard 10/22 fare.

Ruger also included a special lock

Ruger put a list price of $709 on the rifle, the average retail price was somewhere closer to the $500 mark. Which is about double of what a standard 10/22 carbine sold for at the time.

The SR-22 was purchased by the Israeli Defense Forces for less than lethal defense.

The standard SR-22 had a model number suffix of "RDS", they also made a commie law compliant model called the "RSC". The commie compliant model had no sights, no threaded barrel & flash hider and the stock was fixed in the extended position, but it retained "that shoulder thing that goes up".....lol

Side note, after Ruger discontinued the SR-22 rifle, they re-utilized the moniker for their .22 pistol
