Part 5 of this restoration, if you missed the first three you can find them here
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
The big parts have been reblued, now I need to get all the small parts taken care of so I can re-assemble the gun
The hammer and trigger were originally nitre blued, the hammer sides were polished after the bluing and left in the white
So I polished the hammer, trigger and the screws to a high shine
and nitre blued them
Here is the gun partially assembled, I still need to find an ejector rod spring, the old one got damaged when I removed it.
I decided to leave the hammer sides nitre blued. We can always polish them later
You can see the Colt Rampant logo is still clear and crisp
As are the barrel roll stamps, Colt is notorious for having very faint/shallow roll marks
No pits to be found.
Some before and after shots
Yet another fantastic job! You are inspiring me to consider tackling a few I have that could use this treatment....
ReplyDeleteThat's a fine effort, Sir. Perhaps of your best yet!
ReplyDeleteGreat work! Why did you only go to 320 grit, though? What were Colts originally. They seemed much more highly polished to me.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to see the high level of finish being done and not a buffing job that tends to round every corner and eliminate the stamps and lettering. Very nice!
