My First Gun

My parents recently brought me a toy from my childhood, the gun in the picture below was given to me by family friends when I was 3 or 4 years old. It is obviously a copy of the 1903 Springfield Rifle, made from sheet steel, cast steel and wood it has a wooden bullet that moves when you cycle the bolt. These were made by the Parris company and were marketed as the "Kadet Training Rifle"

Somewhere along the way the trigger guard got broken off and the sling (OD green canvas) came missing.
Here is what it originally looked like:

What a great gift! I had no idea my parents still had the toy.

It will now reside in my rec room, a reminder of when we were not ashamed to let our children pretend to be soldiers.
