December 3: In 1828 Andrew Jackson is elected the 7th President of the U.S.; in 1943 the battle of Monte Cassino begins.
December 4: Feast day of Saint Barbara, patron saint of gunsmiths and armorers; in 1619 38 Colonists land in Virginia and hold the 1st Thanksgiving in America. in 1783 General Washington bids farewell to his troops at Fraunces Tavern in New York.
December 5: in 771 Charlemagne becomes King of the Franks, in 1775 Henry Knox begins moving artillery to Cambridge, MA; in 1792 George Washington is reelected President; in 1839 Gen George Custer is born; in 1933 the 21st Amendment is ratified, ending Prohibition.
December 6: In 1849 Harriet Tubman escapes from slavery for the second and final time; in 1865 the 13th Amendment is ratified, ending slavery.
December 7: In 1787 Delaware is the 1st State to ratify the Constitution; in 1941 The Empire of Japan attacks the US fleet at Pearl Harbor.
December 8: In 1765 Eli Whitney is born; 1915 the poem "In Flander's Fields" is written; in 1941 The U.S. declares war on Japan.
December 9: In 1854 "The Charge of the Light Brigade" is published for the 1st time; in 1898 Lt Col John Henry Patterson kills the 1st of the 2 Tsavo man eating lions (Ghost & the Darkness); in 1983 Sudden Impact and Scarface are released in theaters.
Gun of the Week: Remington 511 Scoremaster
The Remington 511 Scoremaster was one of five bolt-action 22 rimfire rifles developed from the same platform.
Introduced in 1939 along with its brother the 510 Targetmaster, the guns would come to lead the .22 rifle market for the better part of three decades.
The Scoremaster used a detachable box magazine holding 7 rounds. The rifle was pulled from the Remington catalog in 1963, then revived again from '65-'67 before being retired forever. Total production was 381,267 rifles. Read more here.
Cartridge of the Week: .300 Winchester Magnum
Introduced in 1963, the 300 Winchester Magnum was designed to improve the performance of the venerable 30-06 and yet still fit in the same size action.
Developed from the .338 Winchester Magnum, which in turn was created from the .375 H&H Magnum. The cartridge features a belted case, the belt being used for precise headspacing.
The .300 Winchester Magnum has slowly become the #1 hunting cartridge in North America, no doubt helped by its ability to take nearly any game in the World.

This week's bubba gun comes from Shannon Agans, a scout for the I.R.A. He took his brother's 12-gauge duck gun and made a pistol out of it. The bead sight is a nice touch there!
