Gun of the Week: Marlin Camp Carbine

The Marlin Camp Carbine was a pistol caliber carbine produced in North Haven Connecticut, from 1985 thru 1999.

The semi-automatic rifle operated with a blow back action using a large, heavy bolt. Stocks were made of hardwood with the famous (infamous?) "Marshield" finish.

The carbine was produced in two calibers, a 9mm version which used S&W model 59 pistol magazines and a .45 ACP version which utilized M1911 magazines.

Cartridge of the Week: .17 Hornady Rimfire Magnum

The 17 HMR was created by Hornady by necking down a .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire to .17 caliber.

The 17 HMR was developed in 2002 to replace the obsolete 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum. Bullet choices are limited and come in weights from 15.5 grain to 20 grain. The flat shooting bullets can reach velocities in excess of 2600 fps. While scarce at first most rimfire ammo makers produce the .17 HMR.
