10/22 Magazine Review: Tactical Innovations TI25

I had purchased this magazine a few years ago, shortly before Ruger introduced the BX25. I purchased a posy of the BX25s and as a result this magazine sat in the safe, going unused.
Tactical Innovations has been making parts and accessories for the 10/22 for years, this is just another one of their well thought out products.
We are working with the polymer version of this magazine. Tactical Innovations also makes an anodized aluminum version that comes in green, gold, red, copper, blue, violet, matte black, semi-gloss black and plain anodized aluminum.

Stats:
  • Polymer construction
  • Stainless Allen head cap screws
  • Stainless steel feed lips, fully adjustable
  • 25 round capacity
The words in capital are from Tactical Innovations website, the italicized text are my words
1. COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLE TO CLEAN OR SERVICE

Is this as important as it used to be?
2. PRECISION ADJUSTABLE TO EXACTLY FIT YOUR GUN
I never considered this important, but they may have discovered what causes magazine failures to feed and came up with a solution.
3. ADVANCED COMPOSITE GLASS FILLED CONSTRUCTION
Tactical Innovations shows a full size Dodge truck driving over a TI25 without damaging it. This is of minor importance, we all know plastic manufacturing is cheaper and the most important reason these are made from polymer rather than aluminum
4. HARDENED STAINLESS STEEL REPLACEABLE FEEDLIPS
Definitely an important factor and the reason why I didn't even consider testing the Butler Creek Hot Lips mags
5. CAD DESIGNED GEOMETRY FOR RELIABLE FUNCTION
This could probably be said of every magazine designed in the last 15 years
6. FULL AUTO OR SEMI AUTO CAPABLE
While I don't plan on making my 10/22 full auto, it is nice to know that these magazines can handle a high rate of fire.

Price Point: MSRP $34.99

First Impressions: The packaging was sufficient, but not reusable. This is not a big deal, but I like being able to put stuff back into its original packaging in the event I need to return it or sell it. It did come with good instructions and an Allen wrench to make the adjustments and disassemble the magazine. Incidentally the 3/32 Allen wrench also fit the cap screws on the Ruger BX-25x2 and the HC3R magazines.

The feed lips are adjustable front to back, side to side and up and down, allowing for almost endless adjustment to perfectly fit your gun.

Fit:
For the record I am fitting these into my 2008 vintage 10/22 with the ATI stock, Ruger used these stocks as a factory option and I have yet to have any issues with the stock or the standard BX25 magazines I have been using in it.

The magazine fit into the mag well easily, very little resistance. Their is considerable side to side and front to back play, but to be fair we have not yet adjusted the magazine top plate, so we will check that when we test fire.

Disassembly:
Beyond easy, simply remove the three 3/32" Allen head cap screws and separate the two halves. The follower comes out from under the feed lips and the feed lips snap out of their recesses without undue force.

Loading the magazine was simple and quick

We used standard ammo, nothing expensive or exotic, the same stuff I would normally run in my 10/22:
  • Federal Champion (36gr copper plated HP, 1260fps)
  • CCI Minimag (40gr copper plated RN, 1235fps)
  • Remington Golden Bullet (40gr copper plated RN, 1255fps)

Pulling the trigger as fast as we could we only had one malfunction, and it was a light strike or a dud (not the magazines fault obviously). Other than that the magazine worked perfectly and we never needed to adjust the feed lips (we did bring a 3/32" Allen wrench with us).
We also tried slow, aimed fire, with zero malfunctions.

In addition we used the magazine in our new 10/22 take-down model, again we experienced zero problems.

Iownguns.com gave the TI25 a 92% rating (five of the magazines were tested) which is pretty good.

I give this magazine a 100% rating, it is worth taking a look at. I am very pleased with this and will be adding it to the BX-25 magazines in my range bag.
