I am so glad I found this article and...Hello there. I am so glad I found this article and maybe someone that can help me with the good fortune I believe I have had. A good friend of mine has inherited a collection of his uncles, well he is not a gun guy and asking me to help him liquidate the collection (To help his widowed aunt financially) Well several very well taken care of guns, however... one of them, at first glance I thought it was the "Every Collection" ruger 10/22 until I noticed the hole in the end of the tube.

Well it is a 44 carbine, serial number 100-38367. Now I am reading everything I can and the different model numbers seem to be spoken of unilaterally 77/96/99 and I am trying to buy a magazine for it (4 round rotary I believe) but now I am reading further and it seems that maybe the one I have does not take a magazine at all, but has a tube feed (like a shotgun) My challenge is that I do not know what magazine to buy.

I know virtually nothing about these guns other than they are highly sought after, especially here in "shotgun zone" lower Michigan and I want this to be my new lower MI deer gun.

However, how do I tell? And how do I properly age my gun. On Rugers site they state that the "100-XXXX" series runs from 1971 through 1974, and that my serial # would place it in 1972 (see below) however in your article above, you state that the "100-XXXX" was 1970-71 and in 1972 the prefix changed to 102, then 103 in the early 80's.

I have some conflict with the aging.

From Ruger's site

"100-20629: 1971
100-31220: 1972
100-41326: 1973
100-50238: 1974

This article:
"Serial numbers started with #1 in 1961, in 1970 the 100 prefix was added (100-XXXXX), in 1972 the prefix changed to 102, then 103 in 1982."Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09364248894881602386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949568258499987693.post-2652979315777864412018-10-07T08:47:30.926-07:002018-10-07T08:47:30.926-07:00Yep, it is a second year production, 1962, you can...Yep, it is a second year production, 1962, you can see the details here: https://ruger.com/service/productHistory/RI-44Carbine.htmlCasehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16568533343504978702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1949568258499987693.post-8401110792614226132018-10-07T08:14:22.593-07:002018-10-07T08:14:22.593-07:00I have a 44 mag carbine.
